Oliver Casillas
Muralist, Art Educator, Art Researcher | Guadalajara, Mexico
Oliver Casillas, born on October 7, 1995, in Guadalajara, Mexico, to a Mexican mother and a Californian father, has cultivated a unique artistic vision from a young age. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from ITESO University and pursued postgraduate studies in creativity and project development at the Université de Namur in Belgium. Now a full-time artist, Casillas focuses on public art, murals, and immersive art exhibitions, integrating painting, video documentation, and audio atmospheres. In addition to his artistic work, he is studying for a Master's in Education and Expression for the Arts (MEEPA) at the University of Guadalajara, where he also works as an Art Researcher Scholar for the Mexican Council of Humanities, Science, and Technology (CONAHCYT). He is also the administrator of the cultural center "Casa San Felipe" in Guadalajara.
Between 2014 and 2019, Casillas earned recognition for his work, contributing to the award-winning "Reconstruction of the Isthmus" project at ITESO University and teaching painting and drawing courses. His mural projects, such as "Lo que somos, miradas a la identidad tapatía" and "Migration," garnered multiple awards, including the "Youth for Peace" award. Since 2020, he has split his time between the U.S. and Mexico, completing major murals in Portland and collaborating with organizations like the Portland Street Art Alliance and Travel Oregon. Casillas also worked on mural projects funded by the state of Oregon and received the PECDA scholarship for "Flores de Ciudad" in Guadalajara. He has been invited to speak at various cultural events, including Talent Land 2021 and the 6th International Museum Forum at the University of Guadalajara.
