Carolina Dulanto
Paper Artist | Lima, Peru
Carolina Dulanto is a Portland-based Peruvian piñata artist whose work invites viewers to consider the piñata as something more than an object to smash at a party. She takes inspiration from life around her, seeing playfulness in everyday items, loud colors and unique textures, and applying those to her sculpted forms.
Since beginning in 2022, she’s exhibited in a group art show organized by Juntos PDX for Latine Heritage month, showcased a piece at Nike Headquarters, been a speaker for AVANZA EDU Leadership/ Mentor Program through Educate Ya, had a featured artist interview published in CanvasRebel Magazine, been one of 37 artists selected to create an immersive installation for a Total Hotel Take Over at The Society Hotel produced by We Are ConTENT, and is a member of artist collective IDEAL PDX.
With her work Carolina continues to explore cartoneria as a medium. She intends to create a piñata culture in Portland in which the public is familiar with the history of piñatas and their evolving place in Latine culture, and with that cultural context has a widened perspective of what a piñata can be as a representational object.
