Álvaro Tarragó

Visual Artist | Mexico

Álvaro Tarrago is a self-taught artist whose inspiration springs from the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, his diverse experiences living in various countries, and the complexities of human behavior. He eschews preconceived labels and rejects ethnocentric and authoritative classifications, often blending a wide range of influences and crossing boundaries to undergo profound personal and creative transformations in his quest for new forms of expression.

Currently, Tarrago works with oils, acrylics, oil pastels, wax crayons, Chinese ink, and lead pencils. Since moving to Portland in 2015, he has had a solo exhibition at the Angst Gallery in Vancouver and participated in group exhibits at the Oregon Society of Artists, Portland Five Center for the Arts, North Bank Artists Gallery, East Creative Collection Gallery, Kempton Gallery, Maude Kerns Arts Center, The Broadway Commerce Center, Princeton University, and the Faro Cabo Mayor Art Center in Santander, Spain. His artwork is included in institutional and private collections in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Brazil, France, Spain, and Germany. Tarrago is also a Director on the Board of the Oregon Society of Artists and a member of the Asian Art Council of the Portland Art Museum.
