Mariel is a Mexican-American artist. She was born in El Paso, Texas in 1988, but grew up in the city of Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico. Mariel began to draw from a very young age and developed her skills with practice over the years, unaware that she would devote herself to painting. In 2008, she left her hometown to begin her university studies in Monterrey, Nuevo León, but soon realized that it was not the path for her, and abandoned the program to pursue her passion: painting. She experimented with new techniques and finessed her skills, turning what seemed to be her hobby into a full-time profession. Since then, Mariel has positioned herself as an international artist, selling her artwork to private collectors in both Mexico and the United States, and most recently, in Abu Dhabi. In 2018, Mariel moved to Seattle, where she enrolled in courses at GAGE Academy of Art to continue developing new techniques in painting. Later in 2021, she relocated to her current home in Vancouver, WA. As an emerging artist, she looks to become more actively involved in the art scene in Portland, the Pacific Northwest, and in the U.S. at large. To this day, she makes art from her nature-bound studio in Vancouver. Mariel’s artwork has been exhibited in various art shows in Culiacan, Mexico City, Cancun, New York City, Seattle and Portland. Her most recent collaboration was with Ideal PDX for the Portland Art Museum in the mural ‘Frida and Diego are here’.
